MHOYS 2018

The Miniature Horse of the Year Show 2018 was held at Onley Grounds Equestrian Centre in Warwickshire on Saturday the 29th of September.

The show kicked off early with Elite Grading with a healthy number coming forward including a few extra on the day.

The judges, Mr Julian Walters, Mr David Hodge and My Kevin Whitehouse Lowe went on to judge across three rings, including eight well-attended final qualifying classes through which all the horses who had not been able to attend a qualifying show during the course of the year were able to have a final opportunity to do so.

Classes were well supported, particularly the American and Blend classes, the geldings and the scaled down type and weight classes. The championships were well contested and the standard was high throughout, giving the judges plenty of work to do!

The driving classes were lightly supported but gave a wonderful spectacle to end the showing rings before the start of the evening performance. The novice agility and jumping classes were full and were a huge success with children and adults alike enjoying themselves!

The highlight of the evening performance was possibly the Unicorn class which was per-judged earlier in the day. The Puissance was hard fought and very exciting to watch as the wall was enormous by the time the last horse had claimed victory. The concours was a beautiful sight and the Hall of Fame moved everybody – some to happy tears!

The facilities at Onley Grounds were excellent and the café stayed open late until the end of the show. The arena was perfectly suited to hosting three rings plus trade stands and space for the horses to ‘collect’ before their classes. The viewing areas gave comfortable seating for those who wished to relax while enjoying the show.

The International Overall Shetland of the Year went to Snelsmore Sienna owned by Jacqueline Percy.

The International Overall Midi of the Year went to SHM Mine All Mines Kiss Me Kate owned by Claudia Foulkes.

The International Overall Miniature of the Year went to EBF SH Prometheus owned by Pat Hampton and shown by Suzanne Acres.

Overall Supreme of Show went to SHM Mine All Mines Kiss Me Kate owned by Claudia Foulkes, Reserve went to EBF SH Prometheus owned by Pat Hampton and shown by Suzanne Acres and 2nd Reserve to Lookingglass Wild Latin Lover owned by Suzie Gray.

Congratulations to all horses, owners and handlers of MHOYS 2018. We hope to see you again next year!
